Almaty. December 13. Silkroadnews - The United States will be responsible for any conflict in the region, the Iranian Defense Minister believes, the Iranian Telegraph Agency (IrTAG) reports referring to the Iran Daily newspaper.
“The United States should accept responsibility for any further tensions or bloodshed in the region after Washington’s recognition of Beit-ul-Moqaddas (Jerusalem) as the capital of the Zionist regime,” Iranian Defense Minister Amir Hatami said.
“The US decision to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Beit-ul-Moqaddas is a deep conspiracy against the oppressed Palestinians,” the agency quoted him saying.
According to army’s Chief of Staff, General Mohammad Baqeri, Trump’s “foolish move” could be viewed as the beginning of a new intifada or Palestinian uprising.
Trump’s statement was followed by almost universal condemnation and provoked a threat of a new wave of violence in the Middle East.
It also caused criticism from the members of the UN Security Council. Macron and Federica Mogherini have criticized Trump’s decision, which caused tension in Netanyahu’s relations with European Union officials.
Washington’s decision also triggered demonstrations in the occupied Palestinian territories, as well as in Iran, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, Algeria, Iraq, Morocco and other Muslim countries.
During the protests against the decision of the U.S. President violent clashes erupted outside the U.S. Embassy in the Lebanese capital city of Beirut.
The demonstrators burned car tires, as well as the American and Israeli flags and tried to break through the barbed wires the security forces set around the U.S. embassy.
