Uzbekistan could double the supply of fruits and vegetables to Russia
Almaty. August 7 Silkroadnews - Uzbekistan by 2016 can increase fruit and vegetable exports to Russia in twice - to 500 thousand tons, reports UzTAG on Thursday.
According to the representative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of Uzbekistan Olimboy Artykov, export of fruits and vegetables from Uzbekistan to Russia last year amounted to 200 thousand tons worthing $300 million, and this year it could increase by another 50-70 thousand tons worthing $400 million.
80% export of vegetables and fruits to Russia was made from Uzbekistan.
"Last year our country, in terms of export of these products to Russi, left ahead traditionally large suppliers such as Poland, Spain, Argentina, Morocco and Italy", - said the representative of the Ministry.
The barriers to increase the supply of fruits and vegetables are technical condition of vehicles in Uzbekistan, as well as increased quarantine measures during the passage of the customs border to Russia, added O.Artykov.
Recall that Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday banned for a year to import into Russia certain types of agricultural products, raw materials and food from countries that have imposed sanctions against Russia. Government was commissioned to compile a list of items subjected to restrictions.
