Uzbekistan has introduced excise duty on imports of small-sized trucks as of 2016

Almaty. January 13. Silkroadnews – As of 2016 the Uzbek government introduced the excise tax of 70% on imports of small-sized truck with an engine capacity of not higher than 2.5 thousand cc and a total weight of not more than 5 tons, UzTAG reports.
Earlier the country applied the customs duty of 30% and VAT of 20% of the customs value of the vehicle. At the same time the excise tax at the rate of 70% and the import duty of 30% are also used for the import of trucks with higher capacity.
Therefore, the government restricts the import of small trucks into the Republic. Thus, according to the State Customs Committee, for the past three years about 16 thousand of mini trucks, 95% of which are imported from China and South Korea, have been imported to the country.
This restriction is quite predictable. As it was previously reported, in July 2015 JV GM Uzbekistan has begun serial production of Chevrolet Labo - mini-truck with load capacity of 550 kg. The vehicle will be assembled at the “Khorezm Auto” plant and the design capacity of the assembly line shall make 5 thousand cars a year.
