Almaty. March 14. Silkroadnews – Leather making enterprises of Uzbekistan are ready to supply skins and leathers for footwear in Russia, the Russian newspaper RG.ru writes.

“Uzbekistan has been known for its abundant base of raw materials – cow and sheep skins free from insect bites compared to suppliers from other hot countries. This fact is a matter of priority when Russian factories choose raw materials for purchase”, the report said.

According to the Union of Russian Tanners and Shoemakers, the deficit in raw materials and semi-finished leather footwear exceeds 40% in Russia. The reason behinds is an annual 2-3% decrease in number of cattle.

For several years there has been a ban on the export of hides from Russia.

According to Natalia Demidova, General Director of the National Footwear Union, “an important issue of cooperation is the fact that during the Soviet times Russia and Uzbekistan had a successful division of labor and at present these links can easily be restored on mutually beneficial terms”.

She also noted that companies from Pakistan, South Africa, Bangladesh, China and Korea are also targeting the Russian shoe industry.
