Uzbekistan’s wind power potential makes 520GW

Almaty. June 13. Silkroadnews – Uzbekistan’s wind power potential makes 520 gigawatts (GW) of electricity annually. The data have been presented at the Tashkent conference on the country’s wind power potential development, Uzbek Telegraph Agency (UzTAG) reports.

According to the JSC “Uzbekenergo”, Uzbekistan is working to assess the development of wind power and for this establishes cooperation with leading international financial institutions.

The wind atlas has been developed using computer-based simulation methods to provide for the interactive information and analytical system of Uzbekistan’s wind power potential. On the basis of this atlas JSC “Uzbekenergo” has determined two prospective areas – in Navoi region and in the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

The results of measurements carried out on these sites for 12 months has been voiced during the conference as proving commercial viability.  

A part of the conference also included presentations of the latest technologies in the turbine construction.
