Uzbekistan to decrease sugar import by 12 times to 30 000 tonnes by 2016
Tashkent. May 23. Silkroadnews – Uzbekistan intends to decrease sugar import from current 350 000 tonnes to 30 000 tonnes by 2016.
“Domestic production will be able to almost completely satisfy internal demand for sugar, as sugar refining capacities will be increased”, a spokesperson of Republican “Pisheprom” Association stated.
He says new sugar factory is to be launched nearby Tashkent this July. This factory will almost completely satisfy domestic demand for sugar.
Singaporean Welton investment, Kito Investment and Austrian SEID Handelsgesellschaft m.b.H teamed up to create “Angren Shakar” in May 2012. Sugar factory construction on the territory of “Angren” special industrial zone started soon thereafter.
It has a refining capacity of 1 tonne of sugar a day. It uses cane sugar for refining. The project required USD 110 mln investment. The project was financed through FDI and foreign loans.
