Uzbekistan to make bribes punishable by up 15 years in prison

Tashkent. May 16. Silkroadnews – From the 15th of May onwards, taking bribes is an offence punishable by up to 15 years in prison. Uzbek President has signed subsequent law amending the country’s criminal code the other day.
The lightest punishment for bribe-taking is a fine of 50-100 minimum wages or imprisonment for up to 5 years. The previous law set minimum punishment a fine of 50 minimum wages and up to 3 years of correctional works.
Under the new law, the greatest punishment is 10 to 15 years of imprisonment compared to 5 to 10 years stipulated by the previous law.
