Washington believes China to raise Iranian oil purchases
Beijing. Jul 19. Silkroadnews - The U.S. expects China will increase its purchases of oil from Iran, despite Washington threats about sanctions to the states that do not give up such imports, the Iranian Telegraph Agency (IrTAG) reports.
Some members of the U.S. administration believe, China will take an advantage of situation when many countries refuse to purchase oil from Tehran, fearing sanctions, and will only raise the Iranian oil import, which can strengthen cooperation between Iran and China amid tension between Beijing and Washington as related to trade disputes, the newspaper writes.
Such growth of Iranian oil imports by China could also undermine the effectiveness of anti-Iranian sanctions that Washington promised to resume after its withdrawal from the Iranian nuclear deal. This, in turn, will affect the oil prices, which grew after the announcement of the U.S. withdrawal from the nuclear deal.
Tehran is in talks with Beijing, which has repeatedly opposed the resumption of US sanctions, while Washington has threatened to take action against the Chinese companies if the latter violate sanctions related to Iran.
