Almaty. October 30. Silkroadnews - The United States wants Pakistan to undertake immediate measures to fight militants and involve the Taliban in the peace process, the Afghan Telegraph Agency (AfTAG) reports.
The statement was made by the Acting Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Ambassador Alice Wells. She stressed, Washington expects Islamabad to undertake practical steps “within a few weeks and months.”
The U.S. representative also noted that Pakistan’s longstanding relationship with illegal armed groups threatened the stability of the region, and called on Islamabad to confirm its commitment to eliminate militants on its territory, The New York Times reports.
Note, that last week while paying a visit to Islamabad U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson once again called on Pakistan to expand its efforts to promote the Afghan reconciliation process and counteract terrorists’ activities on its territory.
