WB will allocate $9 million to Tajikistan to provide for the climate resilience
Almaty. February 15. Silkroadnews - The World Bank (WB) is going to allocate $9 million to provide for Tajikistan’s climate resilience, the Tajik Telegraph Agency (TajikTA) reports.
On February 12, 2016, the Minister of Finance of Tajikistan, Abdusalom Qurboniyon, and the World Bank Country Manager for Tajikistan, Patricia Veevers-Carter, signed an agreement to finance the Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Program for Aral Sea Basin (CAMP4ASB), according to the World Bank Dushanbe Office
Within the framework of the program “Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Program for Aral Sea Basin” (CAMP4ASB) Tajikistan shall be provided by $9 million from the International Development Association (IDA).
Under the Program, financing will be provided to the rural communities to address the current threats to agricultural production and rural livelihoods stemming from climate risks such as droughts and weather extremes.
Some examples of measures to be financed under the project are the crop diversification, on-farm water resource management and efficiency improvements, rehabilitation of degraded lands, livestock production, agro-products processing, energy efficiency enhancements, etc.
It is expected that these projects will benefit 91,000 people in Tajikistan.
As for the regional level, CAMP4ASB is expected to support a platform for sustained regional dialogue and knowledge sharing among all Central Asian countries on climate change across a broad range of sectors, including agriculture, disaster risk management, water, energy, etc.
