Beijing. June 1. Silkroadnews - The Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei health authorities have launched a joint campaign to create a tobacco-free environment for the Winter Olympic Games and Winter Paralympic Games in Beijing in 2022, CNTV reported.
“Beijing and Hebei will work together through all-level publicizing and education programs on tobacco control, making clear standards for tobacco-free environment building, strictly enforcing relevant laws and regulations and providing better stop-smoking assistant service to build multi-dimension tobacco-free environment for the Winter Olympics,” Duan Jiali, director of the tobacco control department at the Beijing Center for Disease Prevention and Control, said.
Duan said that Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei seek to hold another tobacco-free Olympics after the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area will use all kinds of resources for this common goal to be achieved.
“There are four standards for tobacco-free Olympics. First, no smoking in all Olympic and Paralympics venues, including all restaurants and bars within the Olympic Village; second, no tobacco product is allowed in any Olympic venue; third, all scoreboards and broadcasting should publicize policies about tobacco-free Olympics; fourth, no sponsorship from any tobacco companies is accepted,” the agency cited Duan saying.
The Beijing Center for Disease Prevention and Control also began developing technical solutions for tobacco control, developing programs to promote smoking cessation policy, and strengthening anti-tobacco monitoring. It also cooperates with similar bodies in Tianjin and Hebei on this issue.
