World Bank will allocate $128 million to the hydropower and irrigation projects of Afghanistan
Almaty. January 27. Silkroadnews - Ministry of Finance of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan has signed contracts with the World Bank in the field of irrigation and hydropower worth a total of $128 million, reports the Afghan News Agency (AfTAG).
$45 million shall be allocated on the construction of small irrigation channels and the introduction of more modern farming practices in the country. S83 million shall be spent on the modernization of the Afghan HPP “Naglu”.
According to Finance Minister Eklil Hakimi, such investments shall boost job creations, improve irrigation and access to electricity.
The Minister emphasized that in 2001 the World Bank have already helped the country in implementation of four large development project that resulted in a significant strengthening of the Afghan economy and, in particular, its agricultural sector.
It is stated that the project on HPP “Naglu” will be operated by the state holding “Breshna”. The construction of irrigation canals will be carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock.
