Xi Jinping urged Taiwan businesses to adhere to 1992 Consensus

Beijing. April 12. Silkroadnews - Representatives of the Taiwan business community should firmly adhere to the 1992 consensus and oppose “Taiwan independence,” said Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China, China Daily reported.
This year marks the 40th anniversary since the beginning of China’s political reform, and socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era, Xi said.
He noted that the Taiwan issue is related to the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation, and he called on businessmen from Taiwan to seek peaceful development of relations between the island and mainland parts of the country.
With this Xi stressed that mainland China would like to share development opportunities with the people of Taiwan.
Xi called on the people of Taiwan to make efforts to expand economic and cultural exchanges and cooperation that will benefit the people and enterprises of Taiwan.
He said that he hoped compatriots across the Straits would shoulder their responsibilities, push the peaceful unification process and fulfill the Chinese dream of national rejuvenation, the report reads.
